Associations and corporate status
Local and state associations chartered by USBC are required to be organized as a nonprofit corporation and operate consistent with the requirements of an organization classified as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). To maintain its charter, an association must obtain and comply with their state’s corporate statutes. Associations should be sure to check their corporate status with their state and, if for any reason, their corporate status isn’t up to date, they are required to immediately correct it.
Please note that the information above applies only to standard associations; affiliate associations are not required to incorporate. However, should an affiliate have chosen to incorporate, they should be sure to update their information with their state as well.
Final averages in WinLABs
With almost all fall leagues now complete, associations should verify that league secretaries have supplied the association with final average listings for all certified bowlers within the association.
Summer supply orders
The upcoming week is the last opportunity for associations to place supply orders for the 2011-12 season. Associations can start ordering supplies for the fall season starting June 5; all orders placed online beginning June 5 will contain supplies for the 2012-13 season.
Any orders needed for the 2011-12 season should be placed online no later than June 3. Should the need arise for 2011-12 supplies after June 3, associations will need to call the Bowling Information Center at 1-800-514-2695.
Once an order is placed for the 2012-13 season, the association will receive an estimated ship date (when the order will ship from USBC Headquarters; not a shipment arrival date).
For those associations that did not attend the 2012 USBC Convention, Executive Director Stu Upson announced we no longer will award magnets after this season and will have a new award available for special achievements. Associations with a surplus of magnets may be able to contact associations nearby and see if they have a need for any additional magnets.
