2012 USBC Convention update
Information for the 2012 USBC Convention and Annual Meeting soon will be available on BOWL.com/convention.

Convention week will begin with a welcome reception on Tuesday, April 24 at The Sheraton in Arlington, the host hotel, and will conclude with the Annual Meeting at the Arlington Convention Center on Friday, April 27. We recommend that delegates and guests make arrangements to depart on Saturday, April 28.

American Airlines once again is offering a discount on airfare to USBC Convention. Delegates and guests booking their flights can get a 5% discount by using the code 3142BK when they book online.

North Pointe Junior Gold qualifying events webinar
Would your association like to make a little money while giving your youth bowlers a chance to qualify for an event that awards $250,000 in scholarships? If the answer is yes, you will not want to miss this webinar. For anyone looking for information on how to host a qualifying event or have questions about the North Pointe Junior Gold events in your area, please join us for a webinar designed to explain how the Junior Gold program works and assist those interested in becoming a “host center” of a North Pointe Junior Gold qualifying event.

2011 USOC Coach of the Year nominations due December 12
The deadline for four coaching awards is rapidly approaching. The National Governing Body of each Olympic and Pan American sport may nominate a top coach in each of the following four categories:

USOC National Coach of the Year Award  – This nominee is a coach of an Elite Level Club, Collegiate, Pan American, World Championship or Olympic Games coach or is the coach of an elite athlete who competes at the highest level of their sport. This award is based on the accomplishments of the coach for the year 2011.

The "Doc" Counsilman Science Award –  This award identifies a coach who uses scientific techniques/equipment and/or technology as an integral part of his or her instruction or has created innovative ways to integrate sport science into coaching.

Developmental Coach of the Year –  This award acknowledges efforts of a youth club, high school or junior-level coach, or a coach directly responsible for coaching athletes to the junior and/or elite level. This award is based on the accomplishments of the coach for the year 2011. The nominee must currently be coaching or within one year of their retirement.

Volunteer Coach of the Year –  An award to recognize a coach who does not receive payment in any form for their involvement in coaching at any level. The nominee should be for actively coaching athletes. This award is based on the accomplishments of the coach for the year 2011. The nominee must currently be coaching or within one year of their retirement.

The awards are managed through the USOC Coaching Recognition Program to recognize coaches for their contributions and to elevate the status of the coaching profession. The recognition period is from Jan. 1, 2011 through Dec. 31, 2011.

If you know an individual who is deserving of recognition, please request an application through coaching@bowl.com and submit the application by December 12, 2011.

Five elected to USBC Hall of Fame
The USBC Hall of Fame Committee has elected five new members to the USBC Hall of Fame. Wheelchair bowler Al Uttecht of Anaheim, Calif., was elected in the Pioneer category, multiple-time USBC Open Championships winners Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., and Gary Daroszewski of Franklin, Wis., were selected in the Outstanding USBC Performance category and Joan Feinblum of Santa Rosa, Calif., and the late Kerm Helmer of Utica, N.Y., were honored for Meritorious Service.

The induction ceremony will take place April 26 at the USBC Convention in Arlington and will include those elected from the national Superior Performance ballots.

St. Ambrose freshman named Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow
Kyle Anderson of Lockport, Ill., has been selected as the 2012 Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award recipient. The award annually recognizes star qualities in a male high school senior or college student who competes in the sport of bowling.
