2012-13 summer membership cards
As has been stated in past editions of the eNews, USBC is currently working on the development of a new membership system. This system is based on Microsoft Dynamics CRM, a customer relationship management software package developed by Microsoft. The first stages of this development and rollout deal with internal systems for communicating with vendors and managing data.
Due to the implementation of this new system at USBC Headquarters, we were unable to send our summer membership files to our membership card vendor until the system was completed. Because of this, members will notice delays in receiving their membership cards purchased in a summer league.
The system is now active and all summer memberships purchased between March 15 and September 1 have been sent to our vendor. Bowlers who have purchased a membership during this time frame should expect to receive their card in the coming weeks. Please understand that this is directly related to the installation of the new system with USBC and was no fault of our vendor.
Open and Women’s Championships during Convention
There are still limited squads available for association officials wishing to bowl the USBC Open Championships and/or the USBC Women’s Championships while in town for the 2013 USBC Convention. USBC has held spots for delegates both the weekend before and the weekend after the USBC annual meeting; however, as the event starts to fill up, we will have to release these spots to others as needed.
Please remember that registration for both the Open and Women’s Championships has transitioned to an online system, giving the user access to the available dates schedule and the authority to edit their rosters. Dates are not reserved until payment is made, so make sure to reserve your spots as soon as possible before they fill.

Make sure to file Form 990 with the IRS
Tax-exempt organizations are required to annually file some form of 990 with the Internal Revenue Service. The form must be filed every year after August 1 and before December 15.
Any organization that doesn’t file a form 990 and loses its tax exemption will be required to pay fines to the IRS as well as fill out a 24-page document to regain its exemption. Failure to complete this paperwork could lead to the association’s charter being revoked.
Any association with gross income of less than $50,000 per year can file the e-postcard (990-N). The e-postcard can be found on IRS.gov or by clicking here. Associations will need eight items of basic information about the organization:
Employer identification number (EIN)
Tax year
Legal name and mailing address
Any other names the organization uses
Name and address of a principal officer
Website address if the organization has one
Confirmation the organization’s annual gross receipts are normally $50,000 or less
If applicable, a statement that the organization has terminated or is terminating (going out of business)
If any association needs its Employer Identification Number, please send an email to mike.donahue@bowl.com requesting this information.
8 for 8 bowling leagues
8 for 8 is an easy-to-understand and affordable introductory league program offering youth bowlers eight weeks of bowling for just $8 per week. The bowlers receive a USBC Youth Basic membership and all of the benefits that come with it, as well as an entry-level bowling ball.
Please be advised the youth processing system now has a league type for “8 for 8” leagues as well as a membership type of “8 for 8”.

Association officials should be sure to take a look at the latest video for the USA Bowling program. The short video demonstrates how the new youth sports model is designed to bring in more youth bowlers and to help turn them into lifelong bowlers.
