Gastonia, N.C. – Tom Baker of King, N.C., defeated Freddie Childress of Bassett, Va., 289-216, to win the Professional Bowlers Association South Region Gastonia Senior Open presented by Columbia 300 at George Pappas Liberty Lanes Sunday.

The win was Baker’s 26th overall regional title and second in two weeks. The previous Sunday, he won the Gloucester (Va.) Open. Baker earned $1,800 for the win in Gastonia, while Childress earned $1,100 for second.

Baker defeated George Pappas of Charlotte, N.C., 264-234, and Childress defeated Darrell Adams of Flintstone, Ga., 226-202, in the semifinal round. Pappas and Adams each earned $875.

The PBA South Region’s next tournament will be the Surfside Lanes Open in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dec. 2-4.
