Blanchard Snares March Bowler of the Month
Josh Blanchard of Gilbert, Ariz., has been chosen as the March 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. A unanimous choice by committee members, Blanchard won his first two PBA titles in a nine-day span.
His first title came in a 248-211 win over Sin Li Jane of Malaysia, for the PBA International-World Bowling Tour Brunswick Euro Challenge in Munich, Germany. The second win was a 2-1 best-of-three win over reigning PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte, Australia, in the PBA XtraFrame Maine Shootout.
In the 12th Brunswick Euro Challenge, the No. 2 seed Sin Li downed No. 3 seed Jesper Svensson, Sweden, 225-214 in the semifinal, setting up the championship match.
In the PBA XtraFrame Maine Shootout, Blanchard defeated Wes Malott in the Round of 64, Greg Ostrander in the Round of 32, Jason Sterner in the Round of 16, Bryon Smith in the Round of 8, and Osku Palermaa in the Round of 4, in the 64-man field best-of-three tournament.
Blanchard, the 2011-12 PBA Rookie of the Year, lost only two games in the Maine Shootout, his opening game in the opening round match to Malott, and the middle game in the championship match to Belmonte.
Others obtaining votes this month were Brad Angelo, winner of the 12th Kuwait International Open, and Jesper Svensson, winner of the 13th Kingdom of Bahrain Championship.
