Bowler wins fourth spot in Fantasy Camp contest
October 06, 2011
ARLINGTON, Texas - Kevin Prior of Allen, Texas, became the fourth United States Bowling Congress Sport Bowling member to win an expenses-paid trip to the International Training and Research Center in the Team USA Ultimate Fantasy Camp contest.
Prior received 49.3 percent of the total votes in recent fan voting on BOWL.com to beat out Richard Banker of Janesville, Wis., Nathen Rush of Mesa, Ariz., and Aaron Halash of Chandler, Ariz. As the top vote-getter, Prior earns the fourth of six spots that will be awarded in the contest.
"When I was told I won I was just like 'wow, wow, wow' and I'm still in shock," said Prior, a USBC Coaching silver certified coach. "I'm really looking forward to this because my main goal is to go and learn so I can pass along that knowledge to the youth bowlers I coach."
To become eligible for the contest, the four finalists had to bowl a single game of 200 or higher in their USBC Sport Bowling league and then go onto BOWL.com to enter the contest. The four bowlers were randomly selected from those who entered for the opportunity to win a trip to the ITRC.
Prior first began bowling in a USBC Sport league in 2009 and last season averaged 188 in the PBA Experience League at Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas.
"I've always enjoyed the sport and felt as though I could compete, but I wanted to test myself and see how I would fare on Sport conditions," Prior said. "I went from a high 200 average to averaging 170 in my first Sport league. That really helped me realize what transition is, different shots, different releases and most importantly, speed and accuracy. Now I'm up to a 198 average in my Sport league this season."
This year, a total of six winners will receive trips to the ITRC where they will train with Team USA coaches. They also will get to take on six members of Team USA in a special competition which will be broadcast live on BOWL.com.
The Team USA Fantasy Camp contest is open to any USBC Sport Bowling member. Visit BOWL.com/sportbowling for complete information on the contest.
The ITRC is home to Team USA and Junior Team USA. With state-of-the-art tools and cutting-edge coaching technologies, it is one of the top training facilities in the bowling industry. Training tools include high-speed video cameras, motion-capture devices, foot-pressure sensors and goggles enhanced with cameras to show exactly where a player is looking during the approach and delivery. A DVR system can record any video feed to let a bowler see what they did on their last shot as soon as they step off the lane.
