The Village of Trumansburg in New York’s Tompkins County had been without a bowling center since April 24, 1999, when Tri-County Lanes was destroyed in a fire.

But as of last night, bowling is back in Trumansburg, thanks to the opening of a new business called Atlas — a restaurant and a bar that uses bowling as an entertainment element. Atlas was opened by Todd Parlato, a former customer of Tri-County Lanes, which also was home to an eatery called Richard’s Restaurant.

Like so many tenpin facilities of the 1960s through the ’80s, Tri-County was the social hub of the community, and Parlato hopes Atlas will serve the same function in a new era for Trumansburg.

“If we had more space, we probably would have brought in vintage pinball machines and dart boards, but we're comfortable with the layout we have,” Parlato told the Ithaca Journal.

As it is, Atlas has five fewer lanes than Tri-County Lanes: seven, equipped with above-ground ball returns.
