Bowling Is Coming to Blasdell in Former Grocery Building
The village of Blasdell in New York’s Erie County was a quintessential railroad town during the 19th and 20th centuries. It was a stop on the Erie Railroad, which originally connected New York City with Lake Erie.
The village was named after Herman Blasdell, the first station master of the Erie and Pennsylvania railroad depot, and is located due south of Buffalo.
Blasdell promotes itself as “The Gateway to the Southtowns” of Erie County, and village officials are hoping that a new bowling and entertainment center now under development will help make Blasdell itself a destination.
According to the Buffalo News, a company called Great Lakes Bowling and Entertainment has purchased the building that formerly housed a Jubilee grocery store, and plans to renovate it with 20 bowling lanes (including a private two-lane suite), billiards tables, dart boards, golf simulators, an outdoor patio with horseshoe courts and bocce ball, and a stage for live music.
Plans also call for a full-service food-and-beverage operation called the Back Alley Bar and Grill. The cost of the project was pegged at $4 million
“I think it’s great news to see something like this coming into the village,” Blasdell Trustee Rob Hefner said.
The lanes are being provided by Murrey International, the Buffalo News reported.
