INDIANAPOLIS – Brad Miller of Lees Summit, Mo., averaged 240.8 in the opening round of qualifying in the Go Bowling! PBA Indianapolis Open Wednesday afternoon at Woodland Bowl to take a 10-pin lead over defending Indianapolis champion Jakob Butturff of Tempe, Ariz.

Miller, who is trying for his first PBA Tour title, rolled games of 267, 202, 278, 266 and 212 for a six-game total of 1,445 pins. Butturff finished with a 1,435 total, 18 pins better than Australia’s Jason Belmonte.

Qualifying in the Indianapolis Open, a Tier 2 PBA Playoffs points event, continued with the second of three six-game rounds Wednesday evening. After the final qualifying round Thursday at 10 a.m., the top 24 players based on 18-game pinfall totals will advance to eight-game match play rounds Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The top five players after 42 games will compete in Sunday’s stepladder finals, live on FS1, beginning at 3 p.m. EST.
