California bowler connects for 300 in debut at USBC Open Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. – Kaven Massey of Mission Viejo, California, is ahead of the curve when it comes to bowling.

The 20-year-old picked up the sport approximately two and a half years ago, but you wouldn’t know it by watching him perform or seeing the accolades he has collected during that short time.

The talented two-hander made his debut on the national scene this week at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, and he's walking away from that experience with a little piece of tournament history after recording a perfect game during his singles set.

Massey kicked off singles with 300 at the Raising Cane’s River Center, and he closed with games of 189 and 166 for a 655 series. He added 738 in doubles and 553 in team to finish his first appearance at the event with an all-events total of 1,946.

It marked the seventh 300 game of the 2025 USBC Open Championships.

Massey had a strong look to start doubles Saturday, rolling games of 238 and 224 before a ball change helped him start Game 3 with eight strikes on the way to 276. Looking at his final two scores in doubles and perfect performance to start singles, he recorded 800 over those three games.
