California bowler leads Standard Singles at 2026 USBC Open Championships
April 15, 2026
RENO, Nev. – Alan Allred of West Point, California, delivered 24 strikes across his singles set to secure his spot at the top of the leaderboard in the Standard Division at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
The right-hander rolled games of 235, 235 and 257 at the National Bowling Stadium on Wednesday morning to finish with a 727 series – his highest set in seven appearances at the tournament.
Allred needed a late string of strikes to get to the lead, too. After starting Game 3 with a pair of strikes, he posted three consecutive spares to make his margin for error minimal down the stretch to surpass the 722 posted by Las Vegas’ Chris Vittorino on March 21.
He needed the next six strikes for the chance to secure the lead. Allred closed the set with seven strikes to get the job done.

Allred’s big number in singles also helped him post his highest all-events score at the USBC Open Championships. He had 567 in doubles and 508 in team for a total of 1,802.
The Standard Division features bowlers with entering averages of 161-181.
The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
