Californian rolls 300 at Youth Open West Region

ARLINGTON, Texas - At the Youth Open Championships West Region held June 22-23 in Las Vegas, Parker Brooks of San Bernardino, Calif., seemed to find his rhythm in the second game of doubles competition.

ParkerBrooksBrooks, 18, opened doubles competition with a 157 game, and rolled a 213 in his second game. He then strung together 12 consecutive strikes for a 300 game to complete a 670 series.

He rode the momentum of the perfect game into singles competition, posting games of 243, 200 and 233. His 676 series earned him the U20 singles title.

The Youth Open Championships West Region, which was held at Texas Station in Las Vegas, marked the first Youth Open Championships regional tournament. With the 2013 Youth Open Championships taking place in the Detroit area, the West Region event was created so USBC Youth bowlers out west could have a major tournament option closer to home.

Parker's perfect game helped him and Ashley Dunn of Palmdale, Calif., a member of USBC's U15 development team, take second in U20 doubles with a 1,285 total.

Carter Banning, 15, and Austin Duval, 16, of Rapid City, S.D., shot 1,304 to win the U20 doubles division. Banning also took the U15 singles title, rolling a 678 series to edge Morgan Moore, 15, of Aurora, Colo., by six pins.

T.J. Rock, 11, of Henderson, Nev., also grabbed two titles at the tournament. He was the only U12 bowler to roll a 600 series in singles, earning the title with a 623. Rock teamed with Teagan Smale of Boulder City, Nev., for a 1,230 total to claim the U15 doubles title.

Caydann Cox, 8, of Helena, Mont., took the U8 division singles title with a 444 series, and teamed with his brother, Caylor, 11, to capture the U12 doubles title with a 1,146 total.
