Childree posts 823 in singles at 2026 USBC Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Aaron Childree of Panama City, Florida, put together some big strings of strikes Friday at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships to take over second place in Regular Singles with an 823 series.
The 41-year-old right-hander connected for games of 245, 299 and 279 at the National Bowling Stadium to post the 11th 800 series of 2026 event and secure his spot on the list of bowlers to achieve the honor score.
Three-time Professional Bowlers Association Tour champion Tom Smallwood of Saginaw, Michigan, leads Regular Singles with an 836 series.
After rolling scores of 197, 201 and 216 in doubles for a 614 series, Childree recorded strikes on seven of his first eight deliveries to start singles.
His run at perfection in Game 2 was denied by a 4 pin on his 12th shot, but he quickly got back to striking in the finale. After a spare to start Game 3, he struck on his next nine shots before leaving another 4 pin on his second delivery of the 10th. He converted the spare to close his set.

Eight of the 11 800s at the 2026 Open Championships have taken place during singles competition. Two competitors connected during doubles, and one 800 has been achieved in the team event this year.
The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
