The Wisconsin-Whitewater men and St. Francis-Illinois women advanced through their respective brackets to capture titles at the Ebonite Warhawk Open this past weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.

The format included six traditional games and 16 Baker games to determine the eight teams in each division to advance to bracket play. The men's event, featuring 24 varsity teams, was held at Schwoegler's Park Towne Lanes, while the 20-team women's competition was held at Badger Bowl.

The Wisconsin-Whitewater men, who qualified fourth, knocked off top seed Midland in the semifinals and then defeated No. 3 Robert Morris-Illinois to win the title. Robert Morris-Illinois defeated No. 2 William Penn in its semifinal match.

Midland's Nick Pate averaged more than 256 to post a 1,541 six-game total, which included a perfect game to kick off competition, to earn individual honors. St. Ambrose's Jonathan Labrador finished second with 1,372, while William Penn's Nick Walker (1,353), Midland's Casey Maxted (1,347) and Illinois State's Aron Applegate (1,341) also placed in the top five.

The St. Francis-Illinois women earned the top seed for bracket play and defeated No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater in the title match. St. Francis-Illinois bested No. 5 William Penn in the semifinals, and Wisconsin-Whitewater made it to the finals by defeating No. 7 Clarke.

St. Ambrose's Catherine Maher led the women's individual standings with a 1,235 total, a 205.83 average. St. Ambrose's Amber Granzow (1,230) and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Amanda Van Duyn (1,229) were second and third, respectively, while William Penn's Bailey Palmer (1,196) and St. Francis-Illinois' Nicole Troha (1,193) also earned spots on the all-tournament team.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Tulane Invitational in New Orleans, the Tulane women recorded a 4-1 victory in the championship match against Stephen F. Austin.

- At the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 3 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Davenport men and Lawrence Tech women took home wins.

- At the Morningside Mustang Invitational in Sioux City, Iowa, the Grand View women and Nebraska men were victorious in bracket play.

- At the Northeast Conference No. 1, the Sacred Heart women cruised to the top spot.

- At the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference No. 2 in Dover, Delaware, the Delaware State women went undefeated on their way to the win.

- At the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference No. 2 in Daytona Beach, Florida, the North Carolina A&T women made their move in Baker competition on their way to the top of the standings.
