Collegiate Ticker - Feb. 8, 2017

The Hastings women and Nebraska men rolled through the bracket to capture wins at the Bronco Blast in Hastings, Nebraska, last weekend.

The event, held at Pastime Lanes, featured six traditional games and 16 Baker games of qualifying with total pinfall determining the eight teams that advanced to the bracket. Bracket matches were a best-of-three Baker format.

The Hastings women led qualifying by more than 200 pins to earn the top seed for the bracket, but the Broncos dropped the opening game of the title match against No. 3 Iowa Central, 173-169. Hastings rebounded to win the next two games to claim the title, including a 219-182 victory in the deciding game.

Hastings swept No. 4 Kansas Wesleyan in the semifinals, while Iowa Central advanced by defeating No. 2 Grand View, 2-0.

Hastings teammates Harmonie Trenn and Amanda Tyra led the individual standings, with Trenn recording the win with a 1,189 six-game total. Tyra finished with 1,179, followed by Grand View's Hannah Munson (1,132), Hastings' Samantha Laird (1,128) and Grand View's Amanda Duplan (1,101).

The Nebraska men qualified third for the bracket and knocked off top seed Grand View in the championship round, 2-1. The teams traded victories before the Cornhuskers took the deciding game, 227-196.

Nebraska advanced to the finals by defeating No. 2 Hastings, 2-1, while Grand View recorded a 2-1 win over No. 5 Morningside.

Grand View's Luke Fisher and Nathan Maciejewski paced the men's individual standings. Fisher earned top honors by finishing his block Saturday with a 1,290 total, while Maciejewski took second with 1,251. Waldorf's Kyle Swiderski and Hastings' Evan Pitt tied for third with 1,241, and Grand View's Dacoda Ewalt rounded out the top five with 1,234.

- At the Boulevard Bowl Invitational in Schenectady, New York, the Rochester Institute of Technology men and Schenectady County CC women led the way.

- At the Norse Collegiate Classic in Erlanger, Kentucky, the Emmanuel women and Morehead State men put together strong performances to record wins.

- At the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 4 in Lima, Ohio, the Lawrence Tech men claimed a narrow victory, while the Aquinas women held off the competition for the win.

- At the EIBC Championships, the Molloy women and William Paterson men rolled to the top spots.

- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference No. 4 in Madison, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin-Whitewater men and Viterbo women cruised to the top of the standings.

- At the McKendree Baker Challenge in Fairview Heights, Illinois, the Lindenwood women swept McKendree in the finals, 2-0, while the Wichita State men defeated Webber International in the title tilt, 2-1.

- At the SCCC Collegiate Invitational in Schenectady, New York, the William Paterson men and Schenectady County CC women each collected their second win of the weekend.

- At the SWIBC Championships in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the West Texas A&M men and women swept the top spots.
