Collegiate Ticker - Jan. 14, 2026
January 14, 2026
The 2025-2026 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season returned from the holiday break with six events this weekend, highlighted by the Storm Baker Challenge contested in Addison, Illinois.
Ten men’s varsity teams and seven women’s varsity teams bowled 40 Baker games before the top four teams in each division advanced to a best-of-five match-play bracket.
In the opening round of the men’s bracket, No. 1 Calumet faced No. 4 Midway while No. 2 St. Francis-Illinois took on No. 3 Rock Valley. Both matches went to four games, and Calumet and St. Francis-Illinois advanced to the title match.
St. Francis-Illinois started hot with a 247-199 win in Game 1 before cooling down and losing Game 2, 216-228. That didn’t deter the Fighting Saints, however, as they fired off back-to-back 259s to win their second straight tournament.
The women’s bracket included No. 1 Judson taking on No. 4 Carthage and No. 2 Calumet against No. 3 St. Francis-Illinois. Both matches went to five games with Judson and Calumet winning and going for the title.
Calumet took Game 1, 208-179, before Judson responded with a 191-170 Game 2 victory to tie things up. A 184-154 win in Game 3 for Calumet put them ahead for good as Game 4 also went to the Crimson Wave, 188-180, for their third straight Storm Baker Challenge win.
In other collegiate action:
- At the fourth American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) event in Waterford, Michigan, the Davenport men and Lawrence Tech women left as champions.
- In North Versailles, Pennsylvania, two events took place with the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic and Western PA Baker Shootout. Erie CC men and Shawnee State women won the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic while the Rochester Tech men and St. Vincent women won the Baker Shootout.
- In Tallahassee, Florida, the Michael Fine Seminole Classic and Michael Fine Baker Shootout took place. Emmanual men and women swept the Seminole Classic before the Florida State men took first in the Baker Shootout while the Emmanual women completed the weekend sweep.
Next weekend has seven events on the docket, including the Kegel ISBPA Collegiate Classic, a Tier I event.
