The 2024-2025 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season began the new year with six tournaments, including the fifth American Heartland Bowling Association event (AHBA 5).

Seventeen men’s varsity teams and 14 women’s varsity teams arrived in Waterford, Michigan, for five individual games and five Baker games, with total pinfall determining the winner.

After individual games were completed, the Concordia and Lawrence Tech men were neck and neck, separated by just 10 pins. Concordia came out as the winner with a Baker set of 1,186 and total of 6,418, more than 240 pins ahead of Lawrence Tech.

Davenport’s Ethan VanderSlik led all men with a five-game total of 1,205, averaging 241, while teammate Lucas Buck was fourth at 1,096. Concordia’s Connor Rogus was not far behind VanderSlik with a 1,198 total that included a 300 in Game 4. Lourdes’ Reece Kramer collected a third-place finish (1,156) and Lawrence Tech’s Benjamin Augustitus rounded out the top five (1,093).

On the women’s side, it was all Davenport as they headed into their Baker games with a 140-pin buffer over Lawrence Tech. The Panthers maintained the top spot, winning with a 5,548 total.

Davenport’s Kasey Eaton and Isabella Fitzgerald were first and second in the standings, with Eaton leading with a 1,077 total and Fitzgerald at 971. Lawrence Tech’s Amelia Lemanowicz finished with 944 for third and Concordia teammates Emilee Hughes (943) and Amanda Fisher (938) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In other collegiate action:

- Greensburg, Pennsylvania, hosted the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic and Western PA Baker Shootout. The Shawnee State men and Saint Vincent women swept both events.

- Over in Tallahassee, Florida, the Michael Fine Seminole Classic and Seminole Classic Baker took place. The Florida State men swept both events on their side of the field, while the Spring Hill women won the Seminole Classic and the Emmanuel women took first at the Seminole Classic Baker.

- The Storm Baker Challenge was held in Rockford, Illinois, and the Calumet men and women won after going through the match-play bracket.

Eight events, including the Kegel-ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic (a Tier I event), are on the docket this upcoming weekend.
