Hoinke Bearcat Open titles go to Vincennes, Lindenwood
CINCINNATI - Lindenwood was the top qualifier in both the men's and women's divisions, but only one of the Lindenwood teams was able to make it through match play to claim a title at the Hoinke Bearcat Open held at Western Bowl on Jan. 15-16.

Vincennes qualified fifth but won four times in match play, including a 3-2 victory over Wright State in the title match, to take the men's division. Lindenwood (10,055) led qualifying followed by Calumet College of St. Joseph (9,952), Wright State (9,672), Saginaw Valley State (9,607) and Vincennes (9,525).

In the women's division, Lindenwood (9,171) led Bellarmine (8,681) and Marian (8,197) in qualifying, and then Lindenwood beat Marian, three games to one, in the title match.

Calumet's Sammy Krucek (2,047, 227.4 average) was the men's top performer with Urbana's Chris Walden (1,999) edging Lindenwood's Robert Klann by three pins for second. Jillian McBride (1,804) beat out Lindenwood teammate Amanda Greene (1,780) for the women's individual title.

Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge titles go to McKendree, Robert Morris-Illinois
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - The McKendree University men's team and the Robert Morris-Illinois women's team captured titles at the Fifth Annual Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge held Jan. 15-16 at the Bowling Green Sports Center.

McKendree posted an 8,014 pinfall total to beat Purdue by 185 pins in the 18-team men's division. Wisconsin-Whitewater (7,739) was third followed by Western Illinois (7,595) and Robert Morris-Illinois (7,518).

Only 89 pins separated the top three finishers in the women's division. Robert Morris-Illinois posted a 7,336 pinfall total with Robert Morris-Peoria (7,274) taking second and Midland University (7,247) finishing third in the 20-team women's field.

Vanderbilt takes Mid-Winter Classic title
CABOT, Ark. - Vanderbilt was pushed to the final game but managed to edge Central Missouri in the best-of-seven title match at the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Classic on Jan. 14-16.

Led by Martha Perez, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore totaled 9,846 pins to top the field in qualifying at the 14-team NCAA event held at AllFam Bowling Center. Central Missouri (9,607) was second, followed by Nebraska (9,563), Vanderbilt (9,440) and Alabama A&M (9,290).

In bracket play, Vanderbilt took out UMES in the second round, 4-1, en route to the title match. In the final, Vanderbilt jumped to a 3-0 lead but Central Missouri took the next three games to set up the deciding game, which Vanderbilt won 192-183.

Perez took individual honors, posting a 1,135 pinfall total for an average of 227 over five games. Alabama A&M's Addileen Pointer (1,107) was second with Perez's teammates, Maria Rodriguez and Kristina Frahm, taking third and fourth, respectively.

Central Florida, Webber International battle for titles
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - At the Florida State University Seminole Classic, Webber International and the University of Central Florida met in the title matches of the tournament held at Capital Lanes on Jan. 15-16.

Webber posted a 8,754 pinfall total to lead qualifying in the men's division followed by Florida State (8,245) and Central Florida (8,150). Central Florida then won three times in match play to take the title. Webber's T.J. Baral took men's individual honors with a 1,298 total for six games (216.3 average) to edge Florida State's Alex Klemp (1,275) and Central Florida's Joe May (1,274).

Central Florida totaled 8,100 to lead Webber (8,015) and Florida State (7,684) in women's qualifying, but Webber topped Central Florida in the title match. Central Florida teammates Jenn Boisselle (1,241) and Kristie Petravich (1,193) were the top individual performers.

A sweep for West Texas A&M
SAN ANTONIO - West Texas A&M took home the men's and women's titles at the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference III tournament held at Bandera Super Bowl on Jan. 15.

In the 11-field men's division, West Texas A&M (8,170) edged the University of North Texas (7,904) with Texas A&M (7,680) taking third. Richard Weers of West Texas A&M took individual honors with Texas A&M's Justin Blackshear taking second.

The West Texas A&M women, with a 7,225 pinfall total, easily outdistanced LSU (5,617). Nicollette Yurich (853, 170.6 average) led all individuals with West Texas A&M teammate Brittany Lasak (833) taking second.

Hudson Valley and SUNYIT take Hawk Invitational crowns
UTICA, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley men's team and the State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) women's team captured titles at the Hawk Invitational held Jan. 16 at the AMF Pin-O-Rama Bowling Center.

Hudson Valley had a 9,151 pinfall total to lead the men's division with Corning (8,679) taking second and Erie (8,609) finishing third. Corning's Marcus Beard (1,714) edged Hudson Valley's Eric Birdsall by 13 pins for the all-events title, and Ryan Sickler (962) took the singles title. Canisius' Tyler Molina and Derrick Geschwender (1,705) won doubles.

In the women's division, SUNYIT posted a 7,682 pinfall total to top Mohawk Valley (7,527) and Erie (7,036). SUNYIT's Katie Freisatz (1,425) took all-events, Medaille's Robin Manikovski and Melissa Sandoval (1,424) won doubles and Morgan Reid (751) of Mohawk Valley CC claimed the singles title.
