Another weekend of the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season is in the books after six events were contested, including the Kegel ISBPA Collegiate Classic in Addison, Illinois, the second-to-last Tier I tournament of the season.
There were 68 men’s varsity teams and 55 women’s varsity teams in attendance vying for the Tier I title. All teams bowled five individual games and 16 Baker games. Total pinfall determined the champions.
In the men’s field, Mount Mercy led after the first day with 5,522 while Wisconsin-Whitewater was close behind with 5,520. Calumet was in third with 5,486. Once the Baker games started, Calumet closed in on the win with only two games below 200 and the highest Baker total (3,476) to finish with the overall lead by 15 pins over Wisconsin-Whitewater (8,962-8,947). It was Calumet’s first overall win of the season.
Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Luke Winter led all men with a five-game total of 1,223 with Mount Mercy’s Jacob Bockstie just behind with 1,211. Calumet teammates Nate Trentler (1,182) and Mason Doan (1,166) finished third and fourth, respectively, while Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah’s Aidan Furukawa rounded out the top five with 1,163.
Over in the women’s field, Mount Mercy led after Day 1 with 5,017 while Northwestern Ohio, Judson and Lindenwood were all within 17 pins before the Baker games began. The Mustangs continued to hold onto the lead, however, with a field-high Baker total of 3,146 and overall total of 8,163, over 130 pins better than second-place Judson. It was Mount Mercy’s fourth win of the season.
Culver-Stockton’s Rachel Moore led all women with 1,111 and William Penn’s Ashley Gorman placed second with 1,092. Oklahoma Christian’s Zandria Davis (1,084), Lindenwood’s Hailey Bozych (1,074) and Rochester’s Kenzi Nieman (1,070) occupied spots three through five.
In other collegiate action:
- At the Northeast Classic in New Castle, Delaware, the Jacksonville State women earned the title over Vanderbilt in the final match, four games to one.
- The fifth and sixth Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) events took place in Plano, Texas. The Wichita State men and Tulane women swept the weekend in dominant fashion.
- Two events took place in Phoenix with the Devil’s Duel and the Antelope Shoot-Out. The Arizona State men started with a win at the Devil’s Duel before the Grand Canyon men won the Antelope Shoot-Out. The Oregon State women won both events on their side of the field.
Next weekend will see 12 events contested across the country.
