The Wichita State women and Calumet men each strengthened their resumes last weekend at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic, collecting wins at the eighth Tier 1 event of the 2017-2018 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

The event, held at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois, featured 72 men's varsity teams and 66 women's varsity teams. The format included five traditional games Saturday and 20 Baker games Sunday, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.

The Wichita State women claimed their fifth consecutive win at the Midwest Collegiate Classic in dramatic fashion, rolling 201 in the final Baker game to edge Lindenwood for the top spot with an 8,849 total. Lindenwood was the runner-up with 8,840, and Wright State finished third with 8,613.

The Shockers earned their third Tier 1 victory of the season. The run includes wins at the National Collegiate Team Match Games in November and Collegiate Shoot-Out in December.

Wichita State's Sierra Kanemoto recorded her third individual win of the season, and second consecutive first-place finish in Tier 1 competition, with a five-game total of 1,082. Wright State's Colleen Hines was second with 1,072, while Lindenwood's Shelly Goodwin (1,056), St. Ambrose's Natalie Koprowitz (1,049) and Lindenwood's Dene Standifer (1,048) also finished in the top five.

The Calumet men rolled to a big win in Addison, coasting to the top spot with a 9,561 total. McKendree finished second with 9,191 and Robert Morris-Illinois was third with 9,152.

The win marked the second Tier 1 victory of the season for Calumet. The Crimson Wave kicked off the season with a win at the Midwest Collegiate Tournament in October.

Notre Dame-Ohio's Casey Cohagan fired 285 in his final game to catapult to the top of the men's individual standings with a 1,193 total. William Paterson's Steve Kotowski was the runner-up with 1,181.

Calumet's Michael Davidson rolled a 300 game and finished third with 1,165, while Grand View's Sam Cantrell added a 299 effort on his way to a fourth-place finish with 1,144. Vincennes' Tommy Tkacz rounded out the top five with 1,139.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania, the McKendree women captured the deciding game, 199-180, to defeat Vanderbilt, 4-3.

- At the SWAC West Round-Up in Dallas, the Alabama State women led the way in total pinfall.

- At the Muskie Mash in Lancaster, Ohio, the Spring Arbor men and Ancilla women coasted to the top of the standings.

- At the Blue and Orange Classic in Wappinger Falls, New York, the Molloy women recorded a big win, while the Hudson Valley men made their move in Baker competition to edge past Erie Community College.

- At the Westchester Invitational in Farmingdale, New York, the Temple men escaped with a seven-pin victory, and the Molloy women rolled to their second win of the weekend.

- At the Hawk Invitational at Pinorama Lanes in Utica, New York, the Erie men and Hudson Valley women topped the standings.
