Collegiate Ticker - Jan. 28, 2015

The San Jose State men and Midland women traveled to The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas over the weekend and picked up victories in the Roto Grip Rebel Classic, a United States Bowling Congress Collegiate Tier I event.

San Jose State easily topped the men's division with a total of 11,802, while Midland was second with 11,490. Newman took third place with 11,438, while Arizona State was fourth with 11,241.

Nick Pate of Midland earned the top individual honors with a six-game total of 1,399 with Collin Lovejoy of Midland finishing second with 1,391. Michael Tang of San Jose State was third with 1,364, and Ben Canfield of Arizona State was fourth with 1,311.

On the women's side, Midland dominated the field, finishing with 11,335, to win by more than 500 pins. Newman took second with 10,809, while West Texas A&M was third with 10,557.

Sabrena Divis of Midland fired a six-game total of 1,325 to lead the women's individual standings. Haley Hall of Midland was second with 1,290, while Ashley Hare of Newman was third with 1,242.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Sin City Open in Las Vegas, the Arizona State men and Midland women bowled their way to the titles.

- At the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania, Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Central Missouri, 4-3, to win the title.

- At the Blue and Orange Classic in Wappingers Falls, New York, the Schenectady men and women swept the titles.

- At the Phoenix Open in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated Wisconsin-Madison to win the men's title.

- At the McKendree Baker Challenge in Fairview Heights, Illinois, Webber International defeated Lindenwood, 2-0, to win the men's title, while the Lindenwood women defeated McKendree, 2-0, to take the women's title.

- At the Viterbo V-Hawk Invitational in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Ashford men and Grand View women picked up victories.

- At the Westchester Invitational in Farmingdale, New York, the Suffolk men and women swept the titles.

- At the Thomas Burris Memorial Kentucky Collegiate Classic in Lexington, Kentucky, the Pikeville men and women swept their way to easy victories.
