A pair of single-day events - the Westchester Shootout and Westchester Classic - were conducted last weekend just north of New York City.
The Westchester Shootout was contested Saturday at Schneider's Fishkill Lanes in Fishkill, New York, and Sunday's Westchester Classic was held at Carmel Spins Bowl in Carmel, New York.
The Sacred Heart women proved to be the team to beat at both events, while the Erie Community College and Corning Community College men's programs each found their way to the top of the standings.
The Westchester Shootout consisted of six traditional games and 10 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division. A total of 12 men's teams and nine women's teams laced up at Fishkill Lanes.
The Erie CC men used a consistent effort during their traditional six-game block, averaging more than 202 as a team, to build the early lead. They cruised to the win at the Shootout, finishing with a 7,967 total.
Stevens Institute was second with 7,725, and Hudson Valley CC was third with 7,712.
Erie CC's Andrew Burckhalter and Suffolk CC's Ryan DiMaggio tied for the top spot in the men's individual field, each finishing their six-game block with a 1,355 total. Stevens' Nicholas Sparta was third with 1,335, and Penn State-University Park's Nickolas Beier (1,259) and Castleton's Brendan Rollins (1,253) rounded out the top five.
Sacred Heart began its big weekend with a wire-to-wire victory at the Shootout, earning the women's title by nearly 500 pins with a 7,568 total. Molloy was second with 7,080, and Suffolk CC was third with 6,130.
Student-athletes from Sacred Heart also collected the top three spots in the women's individual standings. Rachel Bamford led the way with a 1,369 total and was followed by Victoria Boughton (1,299) and Jenna Harrington (1,220). Molloy's Jennifer Bisogno was fourth with 1,180, and Schenectady CCC teammates Cheyanne Mcphail and Melanie Lemke tied for fifth with 1,171.
The Westchester Classic featured six women's teams and nine men's teams, and the format included six traditional games and five Baker games.
Sacred Heart's momentum quickly carried over to the Classic, where the Pioneers once again dominated the women's field, posting an 827-pin win with a 6,710 total. Erie CC was second with 5,883, and Corning CC took third with 5,782.
Sacred Heart's Bamford, Harrington and Boughton once again made their way into the top three of the individual standings, led by Bamford for the second consecutive event with a 1,253 total. Harrington (1,191) edged Boughton by a single pin for second place.
Erie CC's Brittany McAndrews (1,160) and Corning CC's Kiana Lisi (1,141) rounded out the top five at the Classic.
On the men's side, Corning CC closed its six-game block with a 1,059 game, surged past Hudson Valley CC and was able to maintain that momentum during Baker competition to hold onto a 20-pin victory with a 6,670 total. Penn State-University Park was third with 6,594.
Rockland CC's Joshua Cruz led the men's individual standings at the Classic, finishing with a 1,235 total. Corning CC's Samuel McDonald (1,227) and Hunter Crouch (1,211) were next in the standings, while Stevens' Sparta (1,210) and Erie CC's Burckhalter (1,206) returned to the top five.
In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:
- At the Sin City Open in Las Vegas, the Hastings men and Grand Canyon women rolled to wins in their respective divisions.
- At the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the St. Francis-Pa. women bested top seed Mount Aloysius in the seventh game of the championship round, 183-138.
- At the Columbia 300 Saints Invitational in Chesterfield, Missouri, the Nebraska women rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the bracket finals to win the final three games against Lincoln Memorial and collect the victory.
- At the SCAD Bee Bash I and II in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the Emmanuel men swept both events. The Savannah College of Art and Design- Savannah women won the first event, and the Emmanuel women captured the title at the second event.
- At the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference III and IV in Columbus, Ohio, the Indiana Tech women rolled to the top of the leaderboard at both events. The Notre Dame-Ohio men won AHIBC III, and Lawrence Tech rallied in the final Baker game to win AHIBC IV.
- At the MSC Cincinnati Collegiate Classic in Cincinnati, the Martin Methodist men and Lindenwood women earned the top spots.
- At the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon women and Hastings men finished their time in The Entertainment Capital of the World with wins in bracket play.
- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference III in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin-Whitewater men and Highland CC women cruised to easy wins.
