The Ottawa-Kansas women and Oklahoma Christian men were victorious in bracket play to claim the top spots last weekend at the Eagle Invitational in Belton, Missouri.

The event featured 12 varsity women’s teams and 13 varsity squads on the men’s side. Qualifying consisted of five traditional games and 16 Baker games before the field was trimmed to the top eight in each division for the championship bracket.

The first two rounds of the bracket were contested in a best-of-three Baker format, while the finals expanded to a best-of-five Baker match to determine which team would hoist the trophy.

The Ottawa-Kansas women built an early lead across the five traditional games and cruised to the top seed, finishing qualifying with a 7,297 total. Grand View was second with 7,051, and Columbia took third with 6,855. Peru State finished eighth at 6,481 to advance to the bracket.

The Braves posted a pair of 2-0 sweeps against Peru State and No. 6 Kansas-Wesleyan to earn their spot against No. 4 Baker in the championship match. The Wildcats advanced with wins over No. 5 Avila (2-0) and No. 7 Southern Nazarene (2-0).

Ottawa-Kansas retained the top spot and recorded the victory in the finals by a margin of 3-1.

The Braves also posted three student-athletes in the top four of the individual standings, with Holly Bridges taking home top honors with a 979 total for five games. Amber Wagner (953) and Kiaralyn Backstrom (931) finished second and fourth, respectively, for Ottawa-Kansas.

Baker’s Kinsey Miller (942) and Columbia’s Jordyn Czerw (922) also finished in the top five.

On the men’s side, Ottawa-Kansas edged Southern Nazarene by six pins (8,121-8,115) to earn the top seed in the bracket after averaging nearly 205 as a unit in the Baker block. Oklahoma Christian qualified third with 8,050, while Grand View earned the final advancing spot with 7,578.

In the bracket, Oklahoma Christian defeated No. 6 Baker (2-0) before knocking off Ottawa-Kansas in the semifinal (2-0) to secure its position in the title tilt against Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm made its way to the finals with wins over No. 7 Avila (2-0) and No. 4 Peru State (2-1).

The Eagles of Oklahoma Christian remained undefeated to conclude their run, claiming the title, 3-0.

Oklahoma Christian’s CJ Petrin averaged more than 236 across his five games to earn the top individual spot in the men’s field, posting 1,184. Ottawa-Kansas’ Justin Weddige was second with 1,152 and was followed in the standings by Kansas Wesleyan’s Jackson Penny (1,070), Peru State’s Isaac Skalak (1,069) and Southern Nazarene’s Andrew Hurte (1,066).

In other collegiate action:

- At the Prairie View A&M Invitational, the Jacksonville State women recorded their fifth consecutive victory after sweeping Arkansas State in the finals, 4-0. The event was livestreamed at BowlTV.com.

- At the American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) Championship in Monroe, Michigan, the Vincennes men fired 237 during their final Baker game to win over Wright State by seven pins, while the Davenport women rolled to the title.

- At the Crossroads League – Event 3 in Indianapolis, Spring Arbor earned the victory in the women’s and men’s division.

- At the DIII Invitational in Westmont, Illinois, the Aurora women led the way in pinfall while posting a 5-1 record.

- The William Paterson men claimed a pair of wins at the Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Tournament (EIBT) – Events 3 (Staten Island, New York) and 4 (Elmwood Park, New Jersey).

- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference (GLBC) – Event 3 in Schofield, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin-Whitewater women and men each posted victories by more than 150 pins.

- At the Hammer Saints Classic in Newport, Kentucky, the Emmanuel men and women swept the top spots.

- At the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Iowa Central CC women moved from third to first in Baker competition to record the win, while Iowa Western CC rolled to a 265-pin victory in the men’s division.

- At the New England Cup in Keene, New Hampshire, the Merrimack women paced the field in pinfall on the way to a 6-1 record.

- At the Sin City Open in Las Vegas, the San Jose State women and California State-Fresno men took the top spots in the one-day event.

- At the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon men and San Jose State women were victorious in bracket competition.

- At the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the Duquesne women won the deciding game in the bracket final against Mount St. Mary’s to claim the title, 4-3.

- At the Westchester Classic in Carmel, New York, the Suffolk County CC men cruised to the top spot by more than 370 pins.
