Collegiate Ticker - March 10, 2021

The William Penn men and Baker women went undefeated in double-elimination match play to record wins in their respective divisions at the Heart of American Conference Tournament.

The two-day event was held in Keokuk, Iowa, and featured six teams in each division. All teams bowled 28 Baker games to determine seeding for the bracket, with the top two teams receiving a first-round bye.

Each match in the brackets leading up the finals featured a best-of-five Baker format, with the finals moving to best-of-seven.

In the men's division, William Penn cruised to the top seed, finishing with a 5,557 total. Baker earned the second bye with 5,294.

William Penn defeated Culver-Stockton (3-0) and Grand View (3-2) to earn its spot in the final. Grand View bounced back with a 3-1 win in the elimination bracket against Culver-Stockton to set up a rematch against the Statesmen.

The title tilt came down to the deciding game, with William Penn collecting the victory, 4-3.

Baker earned the top seed in the women's division, posting a 4,867 total. Clarke edged William Penn for the second position by 20 pins, finishing with 4,829.

After the first-round bye, Baker rolled through Grand View (3-1) and Clarke (3-0) to advance to the title match. William Penn won two matches in the elimination bracket to also advance to the final, including a 3-1 victory in a rematch against Clarke.

Baker recorded a 4-2 win in the finals against William Penn to claim the title.

In other collegiate action:

- At the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tennessee, the top-seeded McKendree women defeated Nebraska in the bracket final, 4.5-1.5.

- At the Regional Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament in Salina, Kansas, the Midland men and women rolled to victories.

- At the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) North II in Erie, Pennsylvania, the Medaille women captured the top spot.

- At the AMCC South II in Pittsburgh, the Mount Aloysius women toppled the most pins to finish at the top of the leaderboard.

- At the Roto Grip Raider Classic in Beavercreek, Ohio, and Kettering, Ohio, the Indiana Tech men and Wright State women claimed victory in their respective divisions.

- At the Viterbo V-Hawk Invite in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Waldorf women and men swept the top spots.
