The Robert Morris-Illinois men and Wichita State women battled through match play to claim titles last weekend at the Leatherneck Classic.
Men's competition was held at Highland Park Bowl in Moline, Illinois, and featured 46 varsity teams, while the women's event was contested at Big River Bowl in Davenport, Iowa, with 39 varsity teams.
The event schedule consisted of six traditional games and 16 Baker games to determine the eight teams in each division to advance to the match-play bracket. The bracket consisted of best-of-three Baker matches to determine the winner.
The Robert Morris-Illinois men qualified second for match play and rolled in the title match against No. 5 St. Ambrose, 2-0. The Eagles posted wins of 256-191 and 195-174 in the championship round.
Robert Morris-Illinois bested No. 6 Wichita State in the semifinals, 2-1, to earn its spot in the finals, while St. Ambrose swept No. 8 Lindenwood, 2-0.
Newman's Chance Rivera fired games of 232, 279 and 299 for an 810 series on his way to a six-game total of 1,492 (248.66 average) to pace the men's individual standings. Calumet's Tyler James finished second with 1,388, and McKendree's Bryan Hahlen (1,388), Robert Morris-Illinois' Michael Martell (1,360) and Grand View's Sam Cantrell (1,353) also earned spots on the all-tournament team.
On the women's side, Wichita State claimed the top seed in qualifying, and the Shockers swept No. 6 Newman in the title match, 177-172 and 209-150, to claim the title.
Wichita State defeated No. 5 St. Francis-Illinois, 2-1, to advance to the finals, and Newman knocked off No. 7 Robert Morris-Illinois, 2-1.
Reigning National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Most Valuable Player Sydney Brummett of Wichita State claimed her second individual win of the 2017-2018 season, posting a 1,335 total to edge teammate Hollyann Johansen (1,331) for the top spot. St. Ambrose's Kaitlyn Keith (1,265), Midland's Candice Goldfinch (1,255) and Nicole Troha of St. Francis-Illinois (1,248) also finished in the top five.

- At the Sonic Boom Invitational in Jackson, Mississippi, the Louisiana Tech women defeated top-seed Alabama State in the title match, 4-1.
- At the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 2 in Jackson, Michigan, the Indiana Tech women and Concordia men finished at the top of the standings.
- At the FMCC Baker Tournament in Johnstown, New York, the Schenectady men and women completed the sweep.
- At the Warhawk Classic in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Arkansas State women won the final three games against Nebraska to claim the win, 4-3.
- At the Raider Classic in Beavercreek, Ohio, and Kettering, Ohio, the Notre Dame-Ohio men and women swept the top spots. The women's team posted a Baker 300 game on their way to a 540-428 victory over Wright State in the two-game title match.
- At the AMCC No. 1 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the Mount Aloysius women posted the highest pinfall total on the way to a 7-0 record.
- At the MEAC North No. 1 in Baltimore, the Delaware State women put together a 7-1 record to lead the way.
- At the MEAC South No. 1 in Chesapeake, Virginia, the North Carolina A&T women outdistanced the field.
- At the Royals Open in Schenectady, New York, the Schenectady women and men had another strong showing to claim the top spots.
