Collegiate Ticker - Nov. 30, 2016

The Wichita State men and women swept the top spots last weekend at the National Collegiate Team Match Games, a Tier 1 event in the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

The event took place at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Illinois, and featured 22 men's varsity teams and 18 women's varsity teams. Each team competed in six traditional games and 20 Baker games with total pinfall, including bonus pins, determining the winner in each division.

The Wichita State men made their move during the Baker portion of the event, averaging more than 213 as a team on the way to an 11,964 tally. Lindenwood finished in second place with 11,754 and Wright State took third place with 11,617.

Lindenwood's Jayson Robarge led the individual standings with a 1,407 six-game total, a 234.5 average. Wichita State's Wesley Low was second with 1,386, while McKendree's Greg Young Jr. (1,352), Wichita State's Mitch Hupé‚ (1,347) and Lindenwood-Belleville's Scott Hill (1,344) rounded out the top five.

On the women's side, Wichita State rolled to a 649-pin victory by posting an 11,737 total. McKendree finished in second with 11,088, and Grand View recorded a top-three finish with 10,966.

Wichita State's Sydney Brummett added another first-place finish to the Shockers' performance at St. Clair Bowl, finishing with a 300 game on her way to a 1,374 total to earn the top individual spot. Her teammate, Laura Plazas, finished second with 1,273. Lindenwood-Belleville's McKayla Green was third with 1,264, while Grand View's Brittany Smith (1,258) and St. Ambrose's Kayla Crawford (1,256) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
