Collegiate Ticker - Oct. 22, 2025

The 2025-2026 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season pressed on this past weekend with the Mid States Championships in Wichita, Kansas, the second Tier I event of the season.

Twenty-nine men’s varsity teams and 24 women’s varsity teams laced up their shoes for six individual games and 16 Baker games before the top eight teams, based on total pinfall, advanced in their respective divisions to a best-of-five match-play bracket.

By the end of Sunday, the Quincy men and Sam Houston State women claimed the Tier I title, with Quincy earning their first tournament win in program history.

The Quincy men qualified as the final team in the bracket as the No. 8 seed, facing off against No. 1 seed and bowling powerhouse Wichita State in the opening match. The Hawks took down the Shockers three games to one to advance to the semifinals against No. 5 seed Oklahoma Christian.

Quincy kept the momentum going with a sweep of Oklahoma Christian and faced No. 2 seed Newman in the finals, who won the event in 2024. In the end, the Jets were unable to repeat as champions, falling three games to one against the Hawks as they claimed their first tournament win as a program after debuting in 2021.

Wichita State’s Josh Hammons led all men during the individual block with a six-game total of 1,353, while teammate Garrett Andrus was fifth with 1,324. Southern Nazarene’s Riley Speer (1,350), Lindenwood’s Emmanuel McPherson (1,345) and Newman’s Noah Akiona (1,340) also occupied positions in the top five. McPherson also had a 300 game during the final game of the individual block.

On the women’s side, Sam Houston State qualified as the top seed and made quick work of their first two matches against No. 8 Quincy and No. 4 Lindenwood as they swept both teams. That set up a title match against No. 6 Newman, which went a full five games before the Bearkats finished Game 5 with 203 to Newman’s 179, clinching the Tier I victory.

Sam Houston’s Emily Hart led the women’s field with an individual total of 1,302 and was joined in the top five by teammate Breana Chewens, who was fifth with 1,242. Wichita State teammates Morgan Kline (1,273) and Sara Duque (1,252) placed second and third, respectively, while Lindenwood’s Hailey Bozych finished fourth with 1,247.
