Collegiate Ticker - Oct. 30, 2019

A steady performance in Baker play is an integral part of finding success throughout the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, and the Pikeville women and Lincoln Memorial men showcased their team chemistry on the way to victory last weekend at the Brandon Burns Collegiate Baker Classic.

The women's event was held at Lanes, Trains and Automobiles in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, while men's competition took place at Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee. The tournament featured 40 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.

In the women's division, Pikeville proved to be the most consistent of the 17 women's varsity teams, claiming the top spot with a 7,801 total. Martin Methodist finished in second place with 7,692, and University of the Cumberlands was third with 7,500.

On the men's side, Lincoln Memorial kept Martin Methodist at bay down the stretch, rolling scores of 201 or better in 10 of its final 11 games to earn the win with an 8,585 total. Martin Methodist was second with 8,401, and Pikeville took third out of the 20 men's varsity programs with 8,014.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Hammer Bearcat Open in Fairview Heights, Illinois, the Nebraska women won the final two games against Central Missouri to claim the title, 4-3.

- At the Caldwell Cougar Classic in Rockaway, New Jersey, the Maryland Eastern Shore women swept Monmouth in the bracket finals, 4-0.

- At the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference I in Canton, Michigan, the Alma women and Bowling Green State men rolled to the top spot.

- At the Lions Classic in St. Charles, Missouri, the Midland men and women each claimed bracket wins in their respective divisions.

- At the Stout State Open in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, top-seeded Viterbo recorded the bracket win in the women's division over Marian (3-1), while the Waldorf men bounced back to win the final three games against Highland CC to claim the title, 3-1.

- At the Golden Eagles Invite in Rockford, Illinois, the Purdue men took home wins against Mount Mercy and Rock Valley to win the bracket, while Saint Xavier bested Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Mount Mercy to claim the top spot.

- At the Canadian Maple Classic in Lockport, New York, the Rochester Institute of Technology men cruised to the top pinfall total.

- At the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference II in Canton, Michigan, the Bowling Green State men completed the sweep with a strong showing in their final Baker game, and the Wright State women finished the weekend with a win.
