Lindenwood, Robert Morris (Ill.) top big fields at Orange and Black Classic

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio - Nearly 100 teams took part in the Orange and Black Classic held at Beaver-vu Bowl on Oct. 16-17, with the Lindenwood University men and Robert Morris (Ill.) University women capturing titles.

The Lindenwood men shot 9,664 overall to qualify as the top seed for the stepladder finals in the 60-team field. Robert Morris (Ill.) was second at 9,529 and Calumet College was third at 9,458 in qualifying. In the best-of-five stepladder finals, Lindenwood beat Robert Morris (Pa.), 3-2; Martin Methodist, 3-1; and, in the title match, topped Calumet College, 3-2.

In the women's division, Pikeville College had 8,686 to edge Lindenwood (8,633) and Bellarmine (8,597) in the 38-team qualifying field. But in the stepladder finals, No. 5 seed  Robert Morris (Ill.), right, swept Pikeville in the semifinals then took out No. 7 seed Wright State University, 3-2, to claim the title.

Antonio Palangio of Robert Morris (Pa.) averaged nearly 230 (1,379 for six games) to take men's individual honors by nine pins over Martin Methodist's Riley Buchholz. Wright State's Corey Flick was third at 1,356 followed by Lindenwood's Brad Miller (1,344) and Notre Dame College's Chris Via (1,338).

Jenny Petzoldt of Lindenwood shot 1,281 (213.5 average) to top the women's individual standings. She was followed by three Bellarmine bowlers - Christi Spears (1,202), Stephanie Brownie (1,198) and Michelle Secours (1,196) - and teammate Amanda Richards (1,196).

Geering paces Fresno State at High Sierra Collegiate Classic

RENO, Nev. - Greg Geering had a 300 game and averaged just morethan 230 to help Fresno State capture the High Sierra Collegiate Classic on Oct. 16-17 at High Sierra Lanes.

Fresno State finished with a 12,685 pinfall total to beat Arizona State (12,486) and UNLV (12,370). UC Davis was fourth at 12,279 and Weber State was fifth at 11,548.

In the individual race, UNLV's Brandon Allred shot 2,082 to edge Arizona State's Neil St. Amant by one pin with Geering finishing third at 2,071. Fresno State's Joey Chuo (2,063) and Michael Pixley (2,051) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Wichita State sweeps at Midstates Championships

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State men's and women's teams rolled to titles at the Midstates Championship held Oct. 16-17 at Northrock Lanes.

In the women's division, Wichita State had a 12,507 pinfall total to beat out Central Missouri (12,299) and Newman University (11,809). Jazreel Tan led the Wichita State women, averaging 211 for 10 games to take the individual title with Central Missouri's Natalie Jimenez (2,036) taking second. Tan's teammate, Jessica Baker, averaged 202 to finish third in the individual standings.

Wichita State's men's team posted a 13,713 pinfall total to easily outdistance Minnesota State Mankato (12,683) and Newman University (12,672). Kyle Bischoff of Minnesota State Mankato shot 2,039 (203.9 average) to lead the men's division with Newman's Cooper Buchholz (2,012) finishing second and Kansas' Kyle Turner (2,004) placing third.

Sam Houston women win in program's first match

ARLINGTON, Texas - The first match for the Sam Houston State women's bowling program was a victory over Stephen F. Austin. The match was held at the International Training and Research Center on the International Bowling Campus on Oct. 17.

In the opening match, Kimi Davidson rolled a 224 and Dayna Galganski had a 203 to lead Sam Houston to a 960-874 win, then Aida Sanchez rolled a 198 game to lead a 948-939 victory in Game 2.

Stephen F. Austin, led by Nicole Parkhurst, won the best-of-seven Baker matches, 4-3.



UW-Whitewater men, UW-Milwaukee women earn titles

MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. - Wisconsin-Whitewater grabbed the men's title while Wisconsin-Milwaukee took the women's division at the Wisconsin Conference 1st Meet held Oct. 16-17 at Mermaid Entertainment Center.

The UW-Whitewater men had an 11,908 pinfall total to top Winona State University by just more than 100 pins. UW-Milwaukee was third. Andy Soukup shot 1,304 to take individual honors ahead of UW-Whitewater's Mike Dolan (1,260). Winona State's Matt Meekma (1,253) was third.

Sabrina Bolyard, April Wampole and Stephanie Meier led UW-Milwaukee to an 8,064 pinfall total over five team games and 20 Baker games. UW-Oshkosh (7,881) was second and Winona (7,522) was third. Cody Koch of UW-Platteville took individual honors with teammate Amanda Dagens placing third behind second-place Danielle Schmitting of UW-Oshkosh.

Kutztown women, William Paterson men take Pennsylvania titles

LANCASTER, Pa. - Samantha Santoro posted a 1,763 pinfall total for nine games to take individual honors and help Kutztown to the women's title at the Pennsylvania Classic on Oct. 16-17 at Leisure Lanes.

The Kutztown women's team shot 9,251 to edge Briarcliffe College (9,082) with Mohawk Valley (8,481) taking third place. Gina Capone led Briarcliffe with 1,721 to finish second among individuals.

William Paterson took the men's title with a 9,126 total followed by the University of Delaware (8,224) and The College of New Jersey (7,633). William Paterson's Bryan Sweney (2,058) averaged 228.6 to lead the men's division ahead of Briarcliffe's Jack Castellano (2,033) and Christopher Laube (1,964) of Delaware.
