McKendree-B entered the championship bracket seeded third, but it ended the day second to none as it dispatched Viterbo-Cardinal, 3-2, Robert Morris University of Illinois-Daschler, 3-2, and Robert Morris University of Illinois-Stern, 3-0, to collect the tournament title.

First place in the Power Point standings went to Robert Morris University of Illinois-Lefties +1, which set the qualifying pace with a grand total of 8,049. Robert Morris-Daschler grabbed second billing with 8,030. McKendree-B (7,780), McKendree-A (7,761) and Nebraska-Lincoln (7,756) rounded out the top five in the points standings.

Women’s competition


Maryland-Eastern Shore rode the outstanding performances of Paula Vilas, Martha Perez and Kristina Frahm to a grand total of 12,098 and first place atop the 11-team field. Central Missouri (11,910), Delaware State (11,859), Arkansas State (11,650) and Nebraska (11,494) also finished in the top five.

Vilas led the individual field in average with a three-game total of 661, which was good for a 220.33 average; however, since she did not compete in all five games, she was not awarded an all-tournament team selection.

That was not the case for Perez and Frahm. Perez put up a five-game total of 1,084 (216.80), which was seven pins ahead of the 1,077 tallied by Frahm. Both women earned all-tournament honors.

Brooke Peterson of Delaware State won the individual competition with a five-game total of 1,089 (217.80). Amanda Falk of Central Missouri was second with 1,086. Perez’s 1,084 garnered fourth place, which left Samantha Santorro of Arkansas State to claim fifth with her 1,083.

West Texas A&M established a 142-pin lead, 4,899-7,757, after qualifying, and that allowed it to hold of Houston for first place by a final score of 8,099-8,025. North Texas was third at 7,494. Texas A&M (6,791), LSU (6,252) and Our Lady of the Lake (4,608) rounded out the standings.

Candace Longoria of North Texas won the individual competition with a five-game total of 1,144, which included a 279 in Game 3. Ariel Wotipka of Houston was second with 1,012. Kate Mulcahy (1,006) and Brittanny Lasak (1,000), both of West Texas A&M, finished third and fourth, respectively. Penny Pederson of North Texas was fifth with 985.

West Texas A&M trailed North Texas-Green, 5,486-5,442, after qualifying, but a strong Baker effort allowed West Texas to move in front and take the tournament title with a grand total of 9,253. North Texas-Green settled for second with 9,132. Houston-White (8,794), Houston-Red (8,539) and Texas A&M-Maroon (8,365) also cracked the top five.

Stephen Planer of West Texas A&M ran away with the individual crown after shooting 1,347 for his five games on the PBA’s Shark oil pattern. Planer’s outstanding score and 269.40 average came as a result of games of 268, 299, 268, 268 and 244.

Sean Lavery-Spahr of North Texas was second with 1,255. Stephen Melnyk of Texas A&M was third with 1,159, leaving Frank Papandrea of Houston (1,138) and Anthony Lavery-Spahr of North Texas (1,138) to settle for the final two spots in the top five.

Pikeville-Orange engineered the clean sweep, putting up 8,372 to grab first place in Power Points and going on to claim the tournament title by defeating Lindenwood-Seige 3-2 (202-170, 169-207, 166-171, 248-223 and 206-200) in the match-play bracket finals.

Lindenwood-Seige shot 8,874 to finish second in Power Points. Pikeville-White (8,739), Wright State-Blue (8,569) and Calumet College of St. Joseph (8,354) grabbed the remaining spots in the top five.

Jessica Helwi of Lindenwood won the individual competition with a nine-game total of 1,808, which was greatly helped by a 278 in Game 8. She was the only competitor to average 200 or higher for the tournament (200.90).

A trio of Pikeville bowlers, Becky Sulligan (1,795), Erica Anderson (1,793) and Kim Yioulos (1,750) finished just behind in spots two, three and four, respectively. Danielle Knittle of Penn State was fifth with 1,734.

Pikeville-A finished second in Power Points by shooting 9,461. Arizona State (9,374) and Lindenwood-Gold (9,350) finished third and fourth, respectively, which left Lindenwood-Black (9,346) to claim fifth.

A pair of 246s helped Brian Makan of Arizona State to a nine-game total of 2,017 and first place in the individual standings. Mike Conn of Bellarmine was second with 1,948.
