Detroit area to host youth events in 2013

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Detroit area will play host to bowling's biggest youth tournaments in 2013, the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships and the United States Bowling Congress Youth Open Championships.
The North Pointe Junior Gold Championships will take place at Sunnybrook Lanes and Sterling Lanes, both in Sterling Heights, Mich., and AMF Rose Bowl in Roseville, Mich., from July 13-19, 2013.
All three sites will host qualifying rounds with the match-play rounds of the tournament taking place at Sunnybrook Lanes, which will serve as the host center.
Sterling Lanes will be the site for the USBC Youth Open Championships, scheduled for July 11-28, 2013.
The Detroit area last played host to the events in 2008.
"We're excited to take these two great tournaments back to the Detroit area," said Chad Murphy, International Bowling Campus Managing Director of Youth Development. "With North Pointe's partnership and expanded divisions, we expect to set a record for participants this year and believe these tournaments will be even bigger in 2013."
The North Pointe Junior Gold Championships, which will award a record-breaking pool of $250,000 in scholarships at this year's event in Indianapolis, was created in 2011 by the merger of the USBC Junior Gold Championships and the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America's (BPAA) North Pointe High School Singles Championships into one event.
The tournament features the top youth bowlers in the nation competing for national titles in four divisions - U15 boys, U15 girls, U20 boys, U20 girls - and for spots on Junior Team USA in addition to the pool of $250,000 in scholarships. Qualifying events for the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships are held throughout the country for Junior Gold members.

The USBC Youth Open Championships is open to all USBC Youth members. It has four average-based divisions and bowlers are placed into divisions based on skill, not age or gender.
