Detroit Area USBC Youth Members Get a Closer Look at PBA Tour

With the Pro Bowlers Association opening its season with an extended stay in Detroit, local youth bowlers were given the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes of a tournament during the World Series of Bowling.

The PBA and the United States Bowling Congress joined together to give Detroit-area USBC Youth members a chance to meet the pros, see what happens during a PBA Tour stop and have special seats to watch the final match, which is televised on ESPN.

Following the championship matches, the USBC Youth members had the opportunity to go onto the lane to have their picture taken with the winner of the tournament.

Mark Martin, Association Manager of the Metro Detroit USBC, helped oversee the program while it was in Detroit and said the youth members thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"It was a great chance to give our youth bowlers a unique opportunity that others were unable to get," Martin said. "They were very excited to receive special seating and meet the winners after the competition and have their picture taken with them."

From the USBC youth membership in the area of each PBA Tour stop, USBC randomly selects individuals to take part in the program. Janay Leddy, director of events and community relations for the PBA, works with a local USBC volunteer to set up the tour.
