Fight to the Finnish

Krista Pollanen of Finland fared best on the long oil pattern at Roll House bowling centre on the outskirts of
Ankara this afternoon, shining a bright light with an eight-game total of 1819, an average of 227.38.
The standard of the women's play today was exceptional and there were many exciting moments for the president of the Turkish National Assembly to witness during his prolonged visit.
Whilst Nadine Geisler of Germany has still pole position of the leader board over two stints, her lead is being whittled away by Finland's Krista Pollanen and defending champion Kirsten Penny of England, so things will be very tight come the dust settling after the eight games on the combined condition on Friday, then the cut to the top eight for the finals.
"I like the long oil pattern much better than the short," commented Pollanen after the squad. "I didn't have to change very much as I went through the eight games, just my speed. I guess this was my lucky day."
It was more than luck that put all ten pins in the pit so many times for our Finnish friend. She even beat all the men's scores today and even Nadine Geisler topped Svein Ake Ek's score by one pin.
Kirsten Penny took third place on the squad, falling to a 195 in her eighth game but placing second in the overall standings with some superb bowling, maintaining a 216 average over the 16 games played so far.
