Fire at One Center Saves Another

As will be reported in the April issue of Bowlers Journal magazine, Plamor Lanes in Huntsville, Ala., planned to close on April 30. Its owners had received an offer from the adjacent Jerry Damson Automotive, which wanted to use the land to connect its two buildings and provide more parking.
But those plans changed on March 7, when nearby AMF Parkway Lanes was destroyed in a fire. The owners of Plamor Lanes and Jerry Damson Automotive got together and decided to delay Plamor’s closing.
“(Jerry Damson Automotive) is willing to service the community and keep Plamor running for a while,” Plamor Manager Bobby Orebaugh told The Huntsville Times.
Losing Plamor, in the wake of the Parkway fire, would have left that part of Huntsville seriously underserved in terms of bowling lanes.
Meanwhile, the Huntsville Fire Department continues to investigate the fire at AMF Parkway Lanes, which saw two fire captains injured as they worked to evacuate crews from the building. No center staff members or customers were injured.
