Florida man is oldest bowler to roll a perfect game

Arthur Ulmer of Melbourne, Fla., rolled the second perfect game of his bowling career earlier this week. But what makes the second more special is the fact he will enter the United States Bowling Congress record book as the oldest person to roll a 300 game.
Ulmer was 89 years, six months and 11 days old when he accomplished the feat in the Leisure Seniors league at Shore Lanes Palm Bay bowling center in Melbourne on Dec. 7. He was even a little surprised.
"I was nervous the first four or five frames," said Ulmer, left, with Shore Lanes Palm Bay bowling center general manager Sandy Finkelstein. "Then I was scared when I hit seven and eight in a row. I was shocked when I was able to finish it out."
He rolled his first 300 game in 2000 and had a 299 game in 2001 and a 298 game in 2005. He averaged 176 last season and had a 190 average over 78 games during the 2007-08 season.
Ulmer surpasses Fran Lasee of DePere Wis., who was 89 years, 17 days old when he rolled his 300 game on Jan. 4, 2010.
"It hasn't really sunk in yet," Ulmer said. "But the more you keep asking questions, and the more newspapers that come around, I'm starting to believe I really did it."
