BATON ROUGE, La. -
Longtime United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships doubles partners Holly Davis and Teresa Bazley of Jacksonville, Florida, put that experience to use as they were able to secure a share of the Emerald Doubles lead at the 2017 event.

Davis and Bazley, each making their 11th USBC Women's Championships appearance, used games of 337, 399 and 362 at the Raising Cane's River Center for a 1,098 total, matching the effort posted by Betty Jean Davis of Herbert, Illinois, and Wendy Mann of South Elgin, Illinois.

Davis led the pair this week with games of 207, 206 and 199 for a 612 series, and Bazley added games of 130, 193 and 163 for a 486 set.

Both Bazley and Davis used the information gathered during their team event at the River Center to make adjustments heading into doubles the following day.

"We came into today with a different attitude," said Bazley, who added scores of 474 in team and 419 in singles for a 1,379 all-events total. "We got some lucky strikes, but we found a groove and stuck with it."

The doubles team admitted the initial goal of making their way to the Women's Championships is to have fun with their teammates. Success on the championship lanes was a bonus.

"The thought of first place was far from our minds," said Davis, who added sets of 520 in singles and 517 in team to move into 20th place in Ruby All-Events with 1,649. "We've both bowled for so long, and it's a great feeling to be leading."

Emerald Doubles features pairs with a combined entering average of 320-349.
