Former Santa Fe Center to Become Arts Space

The author behind the “Game of Thrones” series on HBO, George R.R. Martin, is teaming with local arts group Meow Wolf to bring new life to a former bowling center in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Silva Lanes closed in 2009, but in 2015, plans call for the building to become home to an arts space for Meow Wolf, which is an “arts production collaborative that produces immersive, multi-media art experiences,” according to its Facebook page.

The price paid for the former bowling center reportedly was in the high six figures. According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the space has been empty since the center’s closing, when Charter Bank seized the property. The former owner, Art Silva, had been seeking a buyer at the time of the closing. The city of Santa Fe has been without a bowling center ever since.

Author Martin is actively involved in the Santa Fe arts community. In 2012, he purchased the Jean Cocteau Cinema, and also owns several buildings in the downtown area that he reportedly plans to rent out for artist studios.
