Former Team USA member leads Minnesota team on memorable run

ARLINGTON, Texas - Former Team USA member Amanda Vermilyea of Apple Valley, Minnesota, continues to be an inspiration, overcoming a variety of health issues in order to compete at the highest level.
The 36-year-old right-hander found her way back into the spotlight this week at the Minnesota Women's State Tournament, where she helped her team to two tournament records and a run at a national record, too.
The event is being held at Bowlero in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on weekends from March 5-May 2, and Vermilyea and her Cedarvale-Dexter I teammates made their presence known Sunday with a 1,071 four-player game on the way to a 2,756 team series.
The 1,071 also ranks second in the national USBC record book for a four-woman game, behind Hopper's Nuts of Schenectady, New York, which shot 1,093 in 2012.
Vermilyea set the pace in the big game with a 300, and she was joined by Trista Kimmes (277), Hannah Triske (258) and Hannah Munson (236).
The memorable performance came between games of 801 and 884, and their tournament-record 2,756 set helped them into the top spot in the Division 1 Team standings.
Vermilyea led the way with a 738 series and was followed by Kimmes (712), Triske (706) and Munson (600).
The highest four-woman team series in USBC history, a 2,985 effort, belongs to Choice Embroidery of Williamsville, New York, and also was rolled in 2012.
In addition to the team success over the weekend, Triske found her way to the top of the standings in Scratch Singles, Division 1 All-Events and Scratch All-Events with a 2,171 total. Her first team set of the weekend was 694, and she added 771 in doubles and 716 in singles.
Sunday's achievements are pending approval from USBC.
