Furey wins first PBA regional

North Adams, Mass. –
John Furey of East Windsor, N.J., defeated Noel Vega of Forest Hills, N.Y., 227-207, to win the Professional Bowlers Association East Region Mount Greylock Open presented by Storm at Mount Greylock Bowl Sunday.

The win was Furey’s first career regional title, which qualifies him for the PBA Tournament of Champions. Furey earned $2,500 for the win while Vega earned $1,300 as the runner-up.

Furey defeated Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y., 269-256, and Vega defeated Jason Benner of Lehighton, Pa., 166-143, in the semifinal round.

Shafer and Benner each earned $1,000 as semifinal round losers.
