Gentile rolls 801 in doubles at 2026 USBC Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Zechariah Gentile connected for an 801 series and moved into second place in Regular Doubles with Richard Martinez on Monday at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

Gentile, a 32-year-old right-hander from Modena, New York, recorded games of 258, 268 and 275 to post the honor score at the National Bowling Stadium. Martinez, a 38-year-old right-hander from Ballston Spa, New York, had scores of 213, 279 and 236 for a 728 series, giving the pair a 1,529 total.

Two-time Eagle winners Dean Distin of Phoenix, New York, and Michael Tryniski of Fulton, New York, lead Regular Doubles with a record score of 1,567.

Gentile’s performance marked the sixth 800 of the 2026 USBC Open Championships and second in doubles competition.

After making the turn at 526, Gentile started the third game with nine strikes and needed a mark for the opportunity at 800. His first delivery got to the pocket but rang a 10 pin, which he covered. Gentile pulled his final shot but managed six pins to secure his spot in the tournament’s record book.

He closed his ninth tournament appearance with 650 in team and 613 in singles for an all-events total of 2,064.

The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
