From a match play field of 24 made up of a mix of Hall of Famers, PBA Tour and international stars in the PBA Cheetah Championship presented by PBA Bowling Challenge Mobile Game, eight players advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal rounds at the National Bowling Stadium Monday.

In Monday’s Round of 16, PBA Hall of Famer, Parker Bohn III of Jackson, N.J. made short work of his best-of-five game single-elimination match against fellow Hall of Famer Tom Baker of King, N.C., winning in three straight games (290-234, 276-225, 247-225). Between games one and two Bohn had 18 consecutive strikes.

“The scoreboard says 'X' but I’m always looking for the perfect strike,” said Bohn, who currently ranks tied for fifth with legend Mark Roth on the all-time PBA Tour win list with 34 titles. “On a condition like the Cheetah, I believe my long arm swing is an advantage because it enables me to get the ball farther down the lane to keep it on line. I don’t need to give the ball a violent amount of rotation to react.

“In this format, a game plan or strategy comes into play every match,” Bohn added. “I’m going to play the (lane condition) pattern the way I feel I need to and just have the confidence that I make the right decisions and adjustments along the way.”

Also advancing to the Round of 8 were Hall of Famer Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla., (3-1), Andrew Cain, Phoenix, Ariz. (3-1), Wayne Garber, Modesto, Calif. (3-1), Ron Mohr, Las Vegas (3-2), Rhino Page, Orlando, Fla., (3-2) and Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind., (3-2). When the day started six international players were in the field but only Paul Moor of England advanced winning his match against Patrick Girard of Canada 3-0.

Wednesday’s Cheetah Championship match ups will be: Cain vs. Page, Garber vs. Bohn, Mohr vs. Duke and McCune vs. Moor. All the pattern championship Round of 8 matches will be part of a super Wednesday on Xtra Frame with live coverage of who makes the final four.

The 24 players competing in today’s match play rounds advanced from Cheetah Championship qualifying conducted last Tuesday.

The top four players will advance to the ESPN taping of the Cheetah Championship scheduled for 1 p.m. PT Friday. The Cheetah Championship telecast will air at 1 p.m. ET this Sunday.

Round of 24 and Round of 16 matches for the GoBowling.com Viper Championship presented by Xtra Frame will get underway later this afternoon.
