Tate Hagle, left, 8, of Wyoming, Minn., is in his second year of league bowling and loves it. On Jan. 23, he bowled a personal-high 171 game, topping his previous high game of 159. Tate, who bowls in the Little Dippers League at Stars and Strikes Lanes, has taken first place (Bantams) in the last two tournaments in which he has participated, earning scholarships, trophies, and award patches. He is mentored by his grandpa, Rick, who shares his love of bowling.
Bradley Edwards, right, 16, of New Braunfels, Texas, a junior at Canyon High School, had posted three perfect games in his career, including one during the high school regional finals in March 2012, but had never bowled an 800 series. On Jan. 14, 2013, in the Youth All-Star League at Fiesta Lanes, he had his fourth career 300 game en route to his first 800 series (300, 268, 239 for 807). And Bradley didn't slow down when he bowled in the Generation Gap league the next night, also at Fiesta Lanes. He rolled games of 256, 289 and 257 for an 802 series.
Kiearra Saldi, left, 12, of Taylor, Pa., bowls in the High School Winter league at Idle Hour Lanes. On Jan. 12, Kiearra rolled a career-high 643 series, with games of 223, 237 and 183, to push her average to a personal-best 201. Her previous high series was 605.
Daniel Hanson, 15, of Tacoma, Wash., competes in the Tower Juniors League at Tower Lanes Entertainment Center. On Dec. 29, 2012, he rolled his third career 300 game while posting a 771 series (193, 300, 278). Daniel had his first 300 just a week before his 13th birthday and, two weeks later, had his second perfect game on the same pair on which his father had shot his first 300. Daniel works tirelessly and continues to learn the sport, studying lane play and equipment choice.
Vaughn Cruz, right, 19, of San Antonio, Texas, had been bowling well during the first half of his Classics league at Oak Hill Lanes. He had four 700 series while raising his average from 209 to 219, including a 701 series in which he had a 290 game. On Jan. 5, Vaughn posted his first 300 game, rolling games of 235, 300 and 209 for a 744 series. Vaughn also competes in the Scratch Sport Shot league at Oak Hill Lanes, and is averaging 198 in that league.
Pete Fox, 17, of Penn Yan, N.Y., shot a personal best 765 series with games of 279, 255, and 231 on Dec. 29, 2012, during the Doug Kent's Juniors league at Doug Kent's Lakeside Lanes. It also marked the fifth time this season Pete has recorded a game of 270 or higher.
