Historic day approaches for New York bowlers

SYRACUSE – The future of organized bowling in New York is expected to take an historic turn this Saturday when the three United States Bowling Congress state associations become unified under the New York State USBC, Inc., banner.
The organizational meeting of the new merged association is scheduled for noon on June 11 at the Carrier Circle Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn).
The NYS USBC will consist of the current Empire State USBC Bowling Association, the New York State USBC Women’s Bowling Association and the New York State USBC Youth Association, and will serve the state’s approximately 150,000 USBC-certified bowlers.
“This is something that we’ve been looking forward to for several years,” said Priscilla “Pat” Zonneville, president of the NYS USBC Women’s Bowling Association and chairperson of the Transition Committee that has coordinated the merger effort. “I commend the leaders of all three state associations for acting on the vision and working together for the singular purpose of providing outstanding service to our membership.”
Officers and directors of the three state associations along with representatives of the New York State Bowling Proprietors Association served on the Transition Committee, which developed the proposed New York State USBC bylaws and is submitting a slate of officers and directors for the first NYS USBC board. New York State local association representatives have been invited to the organizational meeting to approve the bylaws and to vote for officers and directors.
The initial NYS Hall of Fame/Awards Dinner honoring recipients from both the men’s and women’s associations is set for Saturday evening at the Carrier Circle Hotel. Frank Formicola of Rochester, Marilyn Johnson of Poughkeepsie, Sheila Allen of Peekskill and the late Dick Battista will be inducted.
