Illinois bowler takes over top spot in Standard at 2026 Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – William Geraghty of Orland Park, Illinois, put together his top performance at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on Tuesday to move to the top of the standings in Standard All-Events.

The 37-year-old right-hander had sets of 684 in doubles, 623 in team and 620 in singles at the National Bowling Stadium to post an all-events tally of 1,927. Patrick Sadorra of West Sacramento, California, previously held the lead with 1,893.

The 684 in doubles also helped Geraghty and Brett Powers of Frankfort, Illinois, into fourth place in Standard Doubles with 1,243. Powers had 559. Christian Amendola of Irvine, California, and Harrison Neuharth of Laguna Niguel, California, lead with 1,269.

Geraghty – making his 11th appearance at the USBC Open Championships – averaged more than 252 in his final game of each set. He closed his team event Monday with 247 and had 276 and 234 to wrap up doubles and singles, respectively, on Tuesday.

His appearance in 2026 also marked his first time having three sets over 600 at the tournament. Geraghty’s best performance prior to his showing this year took place at the 2021 event in Las Vegas, where he finished with 1,817 for all-events.

The Standard Division features bowlers with entering averages of 161-181.

The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
