Iowa bowler leads Regular Singles at 2025 USBC Open Championships
March 19, 2025

BATON ROUGE, La. – Isaac Goodman of Ottumwa, Iowa, rolled 29 strikes during his singles set Tuesday at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships to secure the top spot in the Regular Division with a 777 series.
The 30-year-old left-hander had games of 279, 263 and 235 at the Raising Cane’s River Center to take over the lead from 2010 Regular Singles champion Terrence Syring Jr. of Essexville, Michigan.
Needing a mark in his final frame to go around Syring’s 756, Goodman delivered a strike on his first offering. He left a 6 pin on his second shot and converted the spare to close his set.
Goodman started Tuesday’s time at the River Center with 650 in doubles, and an adjustment in allowed the strikes to start adding up in singles.
“I did pretty well (in doubles),” said Goodman, who added 580 in team for a 2,007 all-events total. “When I moved in, I noticed it opened up a little bit.”
He struck on 21 of his first 24 deliveries and started Game 3 with five out of six strikes. A missed single pin in the seventh frame slowed down his quest for the first 800 of the 2025 USBC Open Championships, but he bounced back with strikes in the eighth and ninth frames.
Goodman posted his top series in five appearances at the tournament, and he bested his previous high all-events total by 215 pins. He currently sits in fourth place in Regular All-Events. Cassidy Schaub of Ashland, Ohio, leads with 2,158.
“I was told around where (the lead was at for singles), but my goal was 800,” Goodman said. “Once I saw I couldn’t get to it, I was just going for the lead. It’s surreal. It has not really sunk in.”
The Open Championships is celebrating its third trip to Baton Rouge in 2025 and scheduled to feature more than 58,000 bowlers and 11,600 five-player teams competing across 150 consecutive days at the River Center.
