Minors can still visit Colonial Lanes in Iowa City, Iowa after 10 p.m. — but only if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

According to KORG.com, the restriction was placed on the center after minors were served alcoholic beverages twice within a one-year period.

“We are not under the belief that Colonial Lanes is a den of underage drinking,” Assistant City Attorney Eric Goers said. “They haven’t demonstrated that they are able to prevent underage patrons from securing alcohol there.”

The center could have continued to allow unescorted minors in the building after 10 o’clock, but that would have meant surrendering its liquor license. Now, the restriction on minors will be in place until at least 2019, Goers said.
