Manufacturer’s Intent: “The pro performance Altitude was designed to handle heavy oil, rev effortlessly and provide maximum hook,” says Chris Crossett, president/CEO of Jet Bowling. “The Altitude is incredibly versatile, has a nice controlled mid-lane shape, and is very clean though the heads. It has continuous backend and stores plenty of energy to hit the pins with unmatched power.”

Core Design: The symmetric core shape revs quickly with the 2.48 low RG and the .052 Diff. We saw nearly 5.5 inches of track flare with stronger 3- and 4-inch layouts.

Coverstock: The lava red and lime green cover colors are sure to bring festive thoughts to many. The Tornadic Nano F-5 reactive coverstock is sanded with a 4000-grit matte finish. Oil traction is above average, while response time is moderately quick. This is Jet Bowling’s fourth ball release and the first made in the USA.

Test Results: We were a little apprehensive about the ball’s oil strength due to the conservative nature of the previous three Jet balls we’d tested. Rest assured, the new Altitude rises far above the first three in its ability to handle heavier oil volumes with ease. The 4000 surface can easily be sanded down to 1000 to increase oil traction for speed-dominant bowlers. With this 1000-grit, the Altitude garners a 57 hook and an 11.5 length rating. The even-arcing breakpoint motion stays near our 15 rating, though. The ball rolls evenly and smoothly from midlane to pin deck, somewhat regardless of layout choice. Our 3.5-inch pin drilling was only marginally earlier and stronger than our 5-inch pin distance drilling.

When to Use: Use on heavier oil volumes when looking for a smooth motion shape with no sudden change in direction downlane. The Nano F-5 cover formula should also provide good longevity, as demonstrated by Jet’s previous releases. Since this is a symmetric core model, pay close attention to pin distance and VAL angle when choosing a layout with your IBPSIA-certified pro shop.
