Jon Juneau wins 1990 Team USA Trials
This week’s Retro Roll takes a look back at one of the great amateur bowlers of his generation. Jon Juneau won the 1990 Team USA National Finals with a victory in the final match over his good friend Ralph Solan, 214-206, putting Jon on Team USA for the second time. His unusual style, so smooth at the line, is said to have personified him – laid back and quiet.
Jon struggled with lupus, and after a long fight, the disease took his life on Christmas Day in 2003. He was 33 years old.
Jon was a two-time winner of the Southern Masters in his hometown of Baton Rouge, La., and that tournament now bears his name. For more information on the Jon Juneau Memorial Southern Masters click here.
