Junior Team USA's Cruz takes gold at TofA

Junior Team USA's Tyler Cruz took the gold medal in the Junior A (ages 16-19) boys singles Tuesday at the 50th Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Tamarac, Fla.
Cruz finished more than 100 pins ahead of the field, ending with a 12-game total of 2,540 en route to the victory. His teammate, AJ Chapman, earned the bronze medal with 2,363.
In the girls division, Guatemala's Lorena Bolanos took gold with 2,315 with Junior Team USA's Elise Bolton finishing second with 2,294. Holly Harris of the United States was fourth with 2,187.
Colombia swept the gold medals in Adult singles, while Team USA earned a pair of fourth-place finishes.
Powered by a 300 game, Manuel Otalora of Colombia won the Adult men's title with a total of 2,606. Team USA's Jarret Mizo finished just off the podium in fourth place with 2,550, while AJ Johnson was seventh at 2,341.
In the Adult women's singles, Paola Gomez earned the top spot with 2,459, while Team USA's Danielle McEwan took fourth with 2,378. Addileen Pointer of the United States finished eighth at 2,195.
In the Junior B division (ages 12-15), the United States swept the gold medals. Ashley Dunn led the girls with 2,322, while Kaitlyn Eder was fourth with 1,940. Junior Team USA's Kamron Doyle took the boys gold with 2,494, while Wesley Low was fourth with 2,236.
The United States dominated the Senior women's division with Paula Vidad taking the gold with 2,362 and teammate Pam Sprow earning silver with 2,309. In the men's division, Mexico's Manuel Garcia took gold with 2,448, while Brian Brazeau of the United States earned bronze with 2,412. Steve Kiss of the U.S. was fourth with 2,373.
In the Super Senior division, all four U.S. players medaled with Lucy Sandelin taking the women's gold medal with 2,440 and Carol Teel finishing with the silver at 2,310. On the men's side, the Dominican Republic's Hilton Nunez took gold with 2,454, while Ed Roberts of the United States earned silver with 2,416 and U.S. teammate Jerry Teel took bronze with 2,407.
The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. The invitational competition for countries of PABCON (Pan American Bowling Confederation - the American Zone of World Tenpin Bowling Association) has five divisions for men and women.
