GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – Brandon Bohn of Jackson, New Jersey, earned a gold medal while teammate Josh Hammons of Topeka, Kansas, secured bronze in U21 Men’s Singles on the first day of competition at the 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship, which is being contested at Metrobowl Zone 15 in Guatemala City.

Bohn reached the top of the podium on Monday thanks to a six-game total of 1,427 (a 237.83 average), which included games of 245, 238, 216, 217, 278 and 233.

That effort allowed the 21-year-old American left-hander to finish 69 pins ahead of his closest pursuer, Mexico’s Eduardo Figueroa, who took home silver with a six-game mark of 1,358.

Junior Team USA’s Hammons was close behind, using five games over 200 (259, 262, 204, 247 and 234) to come in at 1,352, which was good enough for a 225.33 average and a bronze medal.

Landin Jordan of Sycamore, Illinois, and Ernesto Reynoso of Folsom, California, also represented Junior Team USA in U21 Men’s Singles action on Monday.

Jordan placed fifth in the 36-player field with a score of 1,332 while Reynoso tallied 1,217 to finish 17th.

In U21 Women’s Singles, the gold medal went to Maria Lopez of Mexico, who bested the other 33 players in the field on Day 1 with a six-game score of 1,247 (a 207.83 average).

Puerto Rico’s Juanelyz Solla claimed silver with 1,225, which was one pin better than the 1,224 total authored by Colombia’s Sara Duque en route to third place and the bronze medal.

Junior Team USA’s Jillian Martin of Stow, Ohio, narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place at 1,205, which included four games over 200 (201, 236, 203 and 226).

Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois, also landed in the U21 Women’s Singles top 10 on Monday. The 18-year-old right-hander finished with 248 to place eighth at 1,154.

Teammates Erin Klemencic of Powder Springs, Georgia (1,141), and Annalise OBryant of Ball Ground Georgia (1,080), were close behind, placing 11th and 16th, respectively.

The 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship is being contested on a 44-foot oil pattern designed specifically for the event.

Bohn was able to tame the challenging lane pattern better than anyone in the U21 division on Monday thanks to keeping cool and staying clean.

“Staying patient, controlling the pocket and filling frames were probably my biggest keys to success today,” Bohn said. “I only had a few shots there were out the window, and, luckily, I filled those frames and then came away with a few more good shots after that.”

According to Hammons, Monday’s bronze-medal effort was all about sticking to the script and grinding when things got tough.

“I felt pretty good today,” Hammons said. “We had a solid game plan going in and found some nice ball reaction for the most part. I had a little bit of a struggle in Game 4 and tried a couple different things, but we got some good knowledge from that. I figured I wasn’t out of it until the end, so I fought my way back and wound up getting a medal.”

Bohn was certainly happy to have secured some hardware of his own on Day 1, but he knows that he and his teammates still have a lot of work left to do in Guatemala City this week.

“It feels really good to come out here, put six games together and come away with gold,” Bohn said. “It’s always great to get off to a good start, but now the real tournament starts with doubles, trios and especially team.”

Doubles play will take place on Tuesday with trios being contested Wednesday.

Team competition will take place over two days, beginning Thursday and ending on
Friday, which will be the final day of competition at this year’s tournament.

Once competition has been completed and all medals have been doled out, the closing ceremony will officially bring the 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship to an end.

The PANAM Bowling Youth Championship is Junior Team USA’s second competition of 2025 as Katelyn Abigania of San Diego and Connor Fleming of Fort Worth, Texas, represented Junior Team USA at the International Bowling Federation Youth World Cup in Helsingborg, Sweden, in June. Abigania placed 10th at that event while Fleming finished 23rd.
